I believe that we all need hope and encouragement! We live in a time like we have never seen before. Watching the news is a downer. I have been keeping track daily of the Iowa stats for the spread of the coronavirus hoping that soon we get to the peak and they start going down. I believe we need to hear the same message that God gave Joshua after Moses died and he was called to take his place. Talk about an impossible job, leading over a million people who gave the godly Moses a hard time. His first job as their leader would be to cross the flooded Jordan river and then conquer the Promised land. The word impossible had to go through Joshua’s mind. What does God say to encourage him (and us)?
“As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you (Joshua 1:5).” Do you feel abandoned? Do you feel that God is far away? God has not moved! Have you? Draw near to God daily. He will never, ever leave you or forsake you! That is a promise you can count on. Because of that promise the challenge God gave Joshua three times was to “be strong and very courageous.” Ephesians 6:10 says, “Be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power…” What a mighty God we serve! Nothing is impossible with God! Joshua was encouraged to stay focused on God and His word and with God’s help to obey it. “Trust and obey for there is no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.” Like Andre Crouch wrote in his song, “Through it all, through it all, I’ve to trust in Jesus, I’ve learned to trust in God.”
