Jim Elliot, Nate Saint, Ed McCully, Peter Fleming & Roger Youderian (Died 1956)
On January 8, 1956, five American missionaries, as part of “Operation Auca,” aimin to establish peaceful contact with the Waorani (also known as Huaorani or Auca), an isolated indigenous group in the Ecuadorian Amazon, and share their Christian faith, were killed by members of the tribe. The events surrounding the missionaries’ deaths and the subsequent work of Elisabeth Elliot and Rachel Saint laid the foundation for the founding of ITEC (International Training and Education Center), which continues to work with the Waorani people today.

Herb Gregg (1947 – ?) –
On November 11th, 1998, Christian missionary Herb Gregg, while walking
home in the Caucasus area of Russia, was wrestled into the backseat of a car where his abductors pulled a sock over his face. For the next seven months, Herb was held hostage, triumphing with the help of his courageous wife, a Russian hostage negotiator, and the enduring care of the Lord.
