As Fathers, we have an enormous task to not only ensure the welfare of the family but the direction the family will take. The responsibility for each child and grandchild’s values come from the standards that we teach and keep. The children listen to us but what if what they see is far more greater than words can convey.
There is more to being a Father than keeping a roof over the heads and food upon the table. What are the children seeing from you? Are they seeing their father praying, in worship, singing songs of faith to God or are they hearing complaints about unfair systems and managers on the job?
I believe that fatherhood is a learned behavior and not instinctive such as motherhood. Because the child grows in the womb and becomes attached, motherhood is possible but for fathers we have to learn and grow into the role. We should not fear or have trepidation neither feel inadequate, we have many examples in the Bible of good fathers. In fact, we have the best example of a wonderful Father who reminds us that He will never leave us nor forsake us.
Fathers, there are two things we should do often:
- Encourage your child to do better and remind them in the process even when they fall, how much you love them and they can do better.
- Allow them to see you love God and worship with all of your heart so they can see how a man connects to his Father who is God of all.
