Rev. Dr. John T. Herndon
Pastor John knowingly called at the age of 7, he is a 4th generation Preacher with over 40 years preaching the Gospel. His father is the late Bishop James A. Turner and Mother Evangelist Betty Herndon who was very instrumental in his development and spiritual growth as well as his godmother the late Evangelist Gladys Johnson. Pastor John was born and raised in West Philadelphia attending University City High School, studied at Delaware State University, Emmaus Bible College, Philadelphia Theological Seminary, Ashworth College and Kansas Christian College. Pastor John is also a former US Marine Corps Sergeant and earned his Doctorate Degree from Newburgh Theological Seminary.
Pastor John was a member of Joy Unlimited Youth Mass Choir in Philadelphia as well as Wilmington Chester Mass choir, where he sang with the likes of Daryl Coley, Teddy Pendergrass, Hezekiah Walker and John P Kee. Pastor John started as a youth choir director at the age of 9, then became a youth minister, youth pastor then into Prison ministry where he served at the Lorton Prison in Virginia as well as pastoring New Life church in Dumfries, VA. Pastor John later served in Philadelphia as a senior pastor where he was involved in street ministry, He was instrumental in opening churches in Monrovia, Liberia in West Africa, preaching in Russia, Ghana, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Cuba, Colombia, Japan, Honduras, Mexico and all across the US.
He is an author, evangelist, revivalist, teacher, counselor and men’s leader. He worked with gang ministries in San Jose, CA, helped develop outreach ministries, Men’s ministry and a Spanish ministry, as well as helping to restore fallen men and women to Jesus Christ.
Out of the many accomplishments of Rev. Dr. John T. Herndon, he is most proud of being a baptized, born-again believer in Jesus Christ and Servus Servorum Dei -a servant to the servants of God.
We are blessed to have Pastor John joining the Westover family as our Senior Pastor beginning in January of 2026.
