The End of All Things is Near

The End of All Things is Near

“The end of all things is near. Therefore…(I Peter 4:7).” If you know the end is near, so what? If you knew that you had 40 days to live, what would you do different? Quit your job? Go on a vacation? Go fishing? Spend time with family? One thing for sure you would want to make sure that your heart is right with God. I have seen a sign along the highway, “PREPARE TO MEET YOUR GOD.”
What does Peter say to do? “Be clear minded.” Is your mind clear and alert? “Be self-controlled.” Are you disciplined? “So that you can pray.” Are you a prayer warrior? In prayer you are in touch with the power center of the universe: God Almighty.
“Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins (I Peter 4:8).” How will you demonstrate love to others in a practical way? The only way love covers sin is when you practice forgiveness. Jesus forgave you, will you forgive others?
“Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling (I Pet. 4:9).” That’s clear teaching, isn’t it? There is too much grumbling. You can’t have joy and peace when you are grumbling.
Then Peter challenges you to use your spiritual gifts to serve God, “so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen.” I Peter 4:10-11. Thank you for giving me the privilege of serving as your pastor.
